A standard adjustable base moves the head and foot. A 3-motor fully electric hi-low bed adds a third motor that raises and lowers the entire bed. Low, it makes sitting down and wheelchair transfers easier and shortens the distance to the floor. High, it lets a caregiver change linens, help with dressing or reposition someone without bending. This report walks through everything to compare before you buy or rent, then shows the models we have on display in Burbank and Phoenix.
Ten things to compare
The deck-to-floor range is the single most important number. Compare the low position with the sleeper's seated height and wheelchair seat, and the high position with the caregiver's comfortable working height.
Motor one lifts the head section, motor two lifts the knees and feet, and motor three raises and lowers the whole frame. "Semi-electric" beds use a hand crank for height, so check that all three movements are powered.
Trendelenburg tilts the whole bed head-down; Reverse Trendelenburg tilts it head-up. These are specialized positions. The Supernal 5 and Tuffcare T7036/T7042 list both. A comfort tilt is not automatically the same clinical function, so confirm with your clinician when positioning is prescribed.
Hospital beds commonly run 36 inches wide; our models range from 36 and 42 inch long-term-care widths up to Full, Queen and Dual King. Measure the room and doorways, and add the user, mattress and anyone who may sit on the bed against the rated capacity.
Half rails and support rails can help with getting in and out of bed. Every rail must be the manufacturer's approved rail for that bed, correctly installed, because gaps can create entrapment risk.
Look for a pendant or wireless remote the user can actually read and press, an emergency battery backup to lower the bed during a power outage, and locking casters so the bed stays put during transfers yet can be rolled for cleaning.
The mattress must bend with the deck without bunching or sliding while still supporting the spine and relieving pressure. Natural latex flexes beautifully and recovers its shape every time the bed returns flat.
Several of our hi-low beds are styled as fine furniture with upholstered or wood headboards, in sizes up to Dual King, so a spouse can keep sharing the bedroom.
For a short recovery, renting is often the smart choice. For long-term use, buying usually costs less over time. Our used hospital beds are half off the regular price. Ask about delivery, set-up and take-away.

Raising the bed to working height protects a caregiver's back during bathing, dressing and linen changes. Lowering it lets the sleeper sit with feet flat on the floor. And because many of our beds come in Queen and Dual King, couples don't have to give up their shared bedroom.

We make our own mattresses, by hand, one at a time, and every one is designed to flex with a hi-low bed. Just three natural ingredients: latex from the rubber tree, soft cotton, and wool as a natural fire barrier.
